Dan is a highly skilled technologist with excellent communication skills. He can elicit a problem through asking questions to identify a business need, then can make commercial and pragmatic recommendations then implement technology based solutions to address. As a manager he was highly respected by his team and colleagues, providing technical direction and broader leadership. He was also liked and respected throughout the businesses he worked within, having a reputation for results. I always felt confident working with Dan and learnt a lot from the time I spent working with him.

Dan is an exceptional Java developer with a real passion for technology. He is dependable, gets it right the first time and the person you want on your team when you're up against a tough deadline or technical challenge. Leading the technical direction of a multi-insurer FSRA solution, Dan was instrumental in making complex pieces of cutting-edge technology work together whilst accomodating the differing and changing needs of multiple groups of competing stakeholders. I would not hesitate in recommending Dan for any opportunity he chose to pursue.

eCompanies was the original innovator in the business formation market, becoming the first service to offer 24/7 company registration with ASIC and the ATO. A relentless focus on fully automated systems, reliability, and user experience meant eCompanies became the largest privately held company registration agent in Australia, 1 in 10 companies were registered using eCompanies while only having one full time employee working on the core business.eCompanies was acquired in July 2017 by Infotrack.

Quipoz promised to automatically transform legacy green screen applications from their original mainframe languages to modern JEE. The Quipoz proprietary platform involved using ANTLR to parse the original code, and then automatically transform it to Java, running on top of their application layer that emulated features of the original platform. I was tasked with adding support for CSP to the platform, a 4GL for Cobol/Kicks, and fixing various performance issues. This was achieved with only the original spec from IBM, and the code for four sample programs that came wth the spec, as source material. I wrote an application support layer that replicated the CSP API, CSP datatypes, and a runtime that emulated platform features like pausable long running transactions. I also changed office culture by introducing version control, assisted in fixing several performance issues, and guided the ANTLR team in building their grammar for the CSP language.
