I assign the stories to our anchors and producers to write and submit each night. I also am in charge of stacking readers and packages in an order that benefits the flow of the show. The job also entails me to work alongside our meteorology and sports departments to create a show that works together with coinciding stories that culminates in a good night of news that benefits our viewers.

I oversee all of the stages of the airing process for over fourteen different original productions that range from a sketch show to sports-debate shows.

News Anchor
-
Sep 2018 - Dec 2018
I wrote and brought the news from the desk every Wednesday Night on live television. Part of my role included learning how to articulate the major points of the story while using minor details to guide the reader to the major point. I got the experience I needed to teach myself how to pace my reading, decide what parts of the assigned stories to me are most useful, and utilize inflection to effectively present the stories.

I worked directly with Sports Director Niko Tamurian and Weekend Anchor/Reporter Matt Hausworth at CNY Central making the sports casts for all of CNY Central's sports casts. My tasks included using AVID to edit highlights and VO/SOTs for specific segments, then uploading the files through AirSpeed. I also wrote multiple web stories, which I would write using briefings or updates from local teams or do the research on topics I was given. The stories were edited by Niko then uploaded to the CNY Central website with both his and my name on as the authors. One of the highlights of the experience was getting to see how the professionals do the job on site. We covered nearly every high school championship lacrosse game in the Syracuse area, went and got footage of the TBT Basketball tournament, and went to the first open practice of Syracuse Football's 2019-2020 season. Seeing how Niko and Matt worked together from different locations to coordinate a sports cast that included footage of previous games, a live hit at a game with highlights of the first half, and also covering the practices with Look Lives. I got to also learn and see how to handle media scrums and see what kind of questions to ask and how to approach the line of questioning for certain atmospheres and situations.Additionally, I went out of my way to do some social media work, experimenting with teasing stories and events we were covering through the season. I mainly used Instagram stories to reach a wider audience since I could connect it to my Facebook. It was an incredible experience that I'm thankful for. Niko and Matt were very helpful, encouraging, and gave me plenty of insight. It affirmed my decision to pursue a career in broadcasting. Attached are samples of stand-ups, web stories, and the social media work I did through these 3 months.
