Stock Handler
-
Sep 2013 - May 2014
My role at Fenwicks was to be the connection between the warehouse and the assistants on the shop floor. This involves ensuring stock in the menswear department is always at the correct levels, with stock sent to the relevant department or storage. This job requires me to be organised, as finding the stock quickly for staff and customers is important. I began on the checkouts, and my role later expanded to include the returns desk, the home-delivery service and the online system for customer orders. The job has enabled me to develop my communication skills through talking and listening to customers both in person and over the phone. Other skills that I used in this role include numeracy, literacy, handling money, accuracy in stock checking etc, and excellent organisational skills. Youth Leader

Aug 2012 - Aug 2013
This role required me to be responsible for the health, happiness and safety of approximately 40 children at a summer camp. In this role my communication had to be clear and non-patronising as I dealt with children, their guardians and other staff. As one of the senior team, I was also responsible for supervising the junior staff – this allowed me to practise my management and delegation skills. While planning a change of career I began volunteering at a secondary school, supporting the teacher, helping students to produce performances, and leading my own classes in Music and PE. This role in particular has improved my confidence and I feel happy speaking to people and answering questions professionally. It also gave me a chance to use my music technology skills as the school had a new recording studio. I had an administrative role, which included making sure the registers are all correctly filled in, updating the disciplinary records, taking calls for the department, filing and organising paperwork and occasionally contacting schools organising after- school sports activities via email and phone.
