As a R&D technician I worked on the Zilver PTX Thumbwheel project which was a high priority project within COOK, which as of now has been brought to market. Here I designed and developed various components for this project, my main group of design would have been in the packaging section. But, I was very involved with a lot of the designs for the handle components as well. This project was very fast paced and timeline driven which was completed within the time I worked as a R&D Technician. As well as developing components I had a very steep learning curve which involved the quality systems within the company, how other departments worked as well as the design process/stages from start to finish. Not only did I design components but had to establish setting them up within the company i.e. creating documents such as procedures and specifications. During this time I worked with various departments within the company such as IQC, Packaging, Document control, Quality, Regulatory, Purchasing etc. Not only did I work with them but I would come in early or stay late to help them finish a job e.g. working with IQC evening shift, completing a work order with the foil room or boxing department, ensuring a change request gets out on time etc.

    • Research and Development Intern
      • Apr 2013 - Oct 2013

I started my time at Cook Medical as a Product Development Intern which I was taken off 3 months earlier than contracted and offered a Research and Development Technician role. Cook Medical manufactures medical devices and products such as catheters, wire guides and stents for use in surgical and minimally invasive procedures. My role at the company as a R&D Engineer Intern workload consisted helping in the development of products form concept to market. Being part of the product development department I worked closely with most departments in the company such as quality, document control, operations, mechanical, SBU/Marketing etc. During my time at Cook I have worked on various projects in different sections of the company; Endoscopy, Urology and Peripheral Intervention until I was finally asked to devote myself to one project in Peripheral Intervention.

      • Jan 2011 - Sep 2011

My role at the company was a Test engineer; this consisted of testing the cameras that were manufactured at the factory. The testing division was part of the R&D department, and worked closely with software engineers and design engineers. My workload consisted of testing many types of cameras with many types of tests, e.g. temperature testing, jet spray testing, submersion testing etc.At times I had to create my own tests to simulate what a camera would go through in a real life situation. These tests were always tested at extremes to get optimum results, and could last weeks or months at a time.
