I developed their new Sub Surface Profiling Radar's embedded firmware, as well as PC based test and demonstration software. This product is targeted at underground mining safety operations. The project was based on the ST Microelectronics ARM based STM32F4 micro controller. The circuit board and mechanical components was also developed in-house. • IOT Research - Biometric Time & Attendance
      • Feb 2015 - Mar 2016

I have developed an interest in IOT development, and have recently started a small private project to test the waters. On recommendation from an old colleague at CPS, I decided on a Biometric Time & Attendance system. I found that it does not require a lot of funds to produce an IOT product. This quick foray into IOT development suggest that it can easily become part of the business infrastructure arsenal to improve their operations. In addition it can be a lucrative market if it is the sole focus of a business. Show less

Early 2011 I was approached by the CEO of Adult World (Francois Joubert) to assist them with the control of their stock and to advance stock control towards a “Just In Time” re-stocking process, for some of their major income generating products. I was also asked to take control of IT management, with the understanding that the cost of IT was spiraling out of control. Adult World has over 60 shops country wide, as well as three warehouses. Because the point of sale systems in Adult World are stand alone systems and synchronize data with the head-office servers periodically. all software system developed had to be stand alone, capable and able to run on both Windows and Linux. DigiCash, previously Iperion, is a registered community bank. In 2010 I was sourced by Louis van Deventer, the then IT Director, to develop the bank treasury system (still in use), which facilitates Debit Order collections, NAEDO collections and EFT batch payments. It also invoices and collects payment of the calculated service, transaction and monthly fees. The system also performs registration of customers through a print/sign and return by fax, automation process. Each registration document is generated already containing customer details, service contracts and relevant FICA details, previously entered through the Member Portal. The customer signs this registration document and then returns it by fax, accompanied by the ID document, proof of residence and bank account details. The system picks up a digital copy of the fax and automatically allocates it to the customer and posts a tracking notification for verification. After document verification the customer is notified of his member status, and if successful, is then allowed to make use of the Member Portal services. The member system above, makes use of a unique specialized pin system, which I developed to help secure the customer and keep the system secure against hacking. It also generates the files to be sent to BankServ (National Bank Reconciling Payment Processor) containing transaction instructions, as requested by the customers. The only process not handled by these systems, was the actual communication and transfer to BankServ. This was entrusted to another contractor. Show less

This is an accounting firm at which I accepted a trainee bookkeeper position. My Bookkeeping qualification as well as my experience with enterprise accounting systems stood me in good stead. This was a rewarding experience that taught me much about the actual day to day accounting practices. My IT development experience allowed me to write small data processing tools that increased the productivity of our team. In addition we managed to clear the backlog which existed, very quickly. Our primary function was to capture the business activities of approximately 12 multi-national companies into an Pastel accounting system and also to perform preliminary audits on their day to day financial activities. This project consisted of the conversion from Progress ERP on a Windows platform to AzecoERP on a Linux platform. AzecoERP is a derivative of WebERP, specifically customised for the Yebo Electronics wholesale and retail business. I assisted with the full migration from the previous Windows environment to Linux. Services such as email, print and fax servers were also converted. In addition, special software was also written to perform stock-taking and to print mail address and price labels. I handed the support of this project over to Bester Consulting, when I closed down DataForce Solutions. Show less
