Machine learning work to create music recommendation algorithms for Cone: an Internet of Things music player. Tuned server to track and prepare content for listeners. NLP to handle music genre requests. Extracted Wikipedia content to automatically summarize artist biographies. Improved speech recognition information retrieval 28% (conditioned metadata, indexing, and retrieving). Cone won the 2014 SXSW Innovation Award for Music Discovery. AWS DynamoDB, RedShift, DataPipeline, Elastic MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, Python, Lucene. Show less

I joined as a software engineer (1998) and progressed to project manager (1999) and group manager (2003) where I led a small research team. AI R&D on game AI, serious games, intelligent tutoring systems, and machine learning. Created commercial game AI toolkit SimBionic and simulation toolkit SimVentive. SimBionic is an AI middleware tool that enables developers to create behaviors for games and simulations while SimVentive is an end-to-end simulation development IDE. In 2004 SimBionic won a Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Award. In 2010 the Air Force designated both products as SBIR/STTR success stories. Joint work with Columbia Teachers College yielded Creature 101: a website that promotes healthy food and physical activity habits for 9-12 year olds. NASA training prototypes developed with psychologists at Univ of Central Florida featured the use of serious games for near-term mission preparation. Link discovery software to detect asymmetric threats in large metadata databases. This work employed a case-based reasoning approach to the problem by forming a spanning case base covering known and theoretical scenarios. These cases were then matched using search algorithms on relational data. Show less
