Experience

    • Information Technology & Services
    • 1 - 100 Employee
    • GIS Consultant
      • Dec 2008 - Present

I am currently working within the Virginia Department of Transportation's Information Technology Division on the production implementation of a cutting-edge roadway inventory system. The new system is an internal tool used by employees and will eventually replace an outdated legacy system. My focus is primarily data related, providing data to internal and external data consumers on a scheduled release cycle. Rigorous QA/QC is continually preformed on the Linear Referencing System, in which I draft release documentation that captures the results and presents them in an easy to read fashion. I also write many scripts to automate repetitive release tasks that help enforce uniformity of final release packages. Many of my tasks have forced me to become multi-lingual in the sense that I can interpret and work within many environments (e.g. Python, PL/SQL, VBA, VB, .NET, ArcGIS, ArcObjects, MS Visio-UML, etc...) This is just one example of the many roles that I fulfill as a GIS/IT consultant for the state. In this highly active fast paced production environment all consultants are expected to provide support in many different roles. This position has proved to be an excellent job, constantly fueling my desire to expand my knowledge of Information Technology and more specifically Geographic Information Systems.
