Winner of The Music and Drama award for Progressive and Inclusive Music Education 2022. Tasked with fulfilling two roles. The first one being the development and management of a roster of young, London based artists. This primarily took the form of recording, engineering and producing them to an industry-quality level. The styles of music varied from R&B to Drill. The other part of the role is to run sessions in schools in order to find talented kids who can benefit from professional recordings. Most of these young people would not usually have the opportunity to access this themselves. Dan also provided advice and training to teachers who didn't necessarily have the skills or the knowledge of the genres of music that the young people are creating. Key responsibilities - Ran weekly sessions in schools to provide young people with recording sessions and support. - Encouraged the development and training for teachers in modern music. - Ensured the welfare and safety of young people in the industry. - Fulfilled engineer and producer role during recording sessions. - Engineer for live video sessions. - Location scout. Part of a team of four music tutors in the largest department of the college. His strengths include teaching any unit in depth as he has production, performance, writing and business experience. Key responsibilities - Lead staff member role on the implementation of Google Classroom and moving to a VLE for students to access lessons and material online. - To plan engaging and challenging lessons to keep attendance high. - To plan an IV schedule, showing dates students submit their work along with what teacher is marking it and who needs to IV their sample. - Redesigning the course to better fit our students – more so for UAL Level 3 year 2. - To provide each student in his tutor group a thorough 1-1 tutorial each half term. - To monitor the needs of SEND pupils and to update their profiles after each tutorial. - Alongside the course lead, gather evidence and present it to the UAL moderator for assessment. - To run a weekly after-school jam session, where students could turn up to play music with others they don’t necessarily see during the day. This was done voluntarily. Key achievement/projects - In his first year at the college (full year before COVID). Twelve out of sixteen of his tutor group (who he also taught the most in the year) achieved a distinction in their year 2 level 3 UAL diploma. Two of the four other grades achieved higher than their target grade. - He never had a student fail, and the majority achieve over their target grade. - From May 2020 to September 2021, our head of music left his post. Dan stepped in and planned the year as an ‘unofficial head of music’. This was to make sure the students achieved the best grades possible and that the department was prepared for the next year. He organised new SOWs, course year plans, department improvement plans, equipment purchases orders and managed peripatetic teacher’s invoices. All of this was done voluntarily in order to keep the students from feeling the effects of a teacher leaving. Show less
