Public acceptability of degrowth and low consumption lifestyles: understanding consumer experience, policy support and behaviour change. My thesis to generated an understanding of how the public would view a transition towards low consumption lifestyles and away from growth-centrism and free market economies by examining acceptability of specific behaviour change strategies and policy development related to concepts of degrowth and socio-ecological harmony. Responsibilities included designing, implementing, and analysing a multi-stage critical realist mixed-methods research project. The qualitative research was carried out using deliberative focus groups with the public, and data was analysed using a thematic analysis. The results informed a quantitative experiment exploring framing effect of social norm activation and hypocrisy inducement upon policy acceptance and behavioural intentions. Show less
