Dan was my engineering manager at carwow and he's awesome to work with! He instilled good engineering practices in the team, pushing for things like more pair programming. This significantly reduced our time on each card as problems which we might have spent most of a day trying to fix ourselves could often be resolved quickly by pairing with someone with direct knowledge of that business area for example. Additionally, this led to more knowledge sharing between the team, and less time getting frustrated trying to fix a problem individually where it should be a team effort. Its also creates a good team environment given that we were working remote most of the time and otherwise wouldn't see each other. Dans use of observability tools and metrics to track our card cycle times was also a great way of spotting work that was getting mired in problems and needed some help from the wider team. This significantly increased the output of the teams work and was a major contribution to the team hitting its OKR's each quarter. What's more, Dan is great cultural addition to any company, he's friendly, easy to talk to as a manager and I always felt comfortable talking to him and receiving feedback, plus he even has a good sense of humour. With great technical, management, and people skills, I Highly recommend working with Dan if you get the chance!

If you’re looking for a compassionate engineering manager with strong process chops and the technical background to go with it, then Dan’s your man! Dan and I worked together for many years, but more closely over the last couple of years as he transitioned from senior engineer to engineering manager. Dan took on a complex platform remit at carwow, supporting some of our most senior engineers and stakeholders to deliver on people, process, and business goals consistently. Dan’s superpower is his ability to get his teams to think deeply about their systems, processes and tooling, helping them improve rapidly in a very data-driven way. I’d jump at the opportunity to work with Dan again!
