Dan Kopp was a presenter at our Leadership closing class. His message was motivating and relatable. It was just what we needed for our closing class to send our "graduates" off to be leaders in ourcommunity.

I first met Dan Kopp in 2011 when he was hired to be the District Administrator of the school district where I had been employed for the prior 11 years. Dan would be the third DA that I would work for and would be my next boss, out of the multitude of bosses that I have had over my 40+ year career. Not knowing what to expect, I hoped for the best, but prepared for the worst. You see, my prior experience told me that true leaders were rare and were unlikely to grace my presence. My prior supervisors had all required excellence, which is an understandable expectation. But requiring excellence without providing guidance or leadership is an expectation that rarely yields results. Dan did not require excellence, he inspired it. Dan encouraged employees to seek out professional development and improvement. He inspired employees to challenge the status quo, even if that required difficult conversations. He encouraged employees to seek out professional advancement, even if it meant leaving the district. He inspired employees to take on leadership roles and guided them through that process. He was a mentor, coach, advisor, and everyone's greatest cheerleader. Employees wanted to work hard for him because they didn't want to let him down. They wanted to achieve at high levels and for the district to be successful. It became easy and it became the norm. Dan is an inspirational leader and I feel honored to have worked for him and to continue working with him today.

As a learning community and through the leadership of the Academic Affairs Committee, Wilmot Union High School has developed a clear sense of who we want to become through a process where district stakeholders: students, staff, parents, community members, business partners, and Board of Education members came together and identified the key characteristics and values we want to exemplify. These characteristics and values were aligned under five pillars to further define the key areas of focus for our learning community. It is through these five pillars and their guiding statements that WUHS and our stakeholders will empower one another to create and fulfill the goals and commitments that will bring our vision to fruition. We invite every stakeholder of the WUHS learning community to enter into this process of adopting the defined values to fulfill our vision of an exemplary school. Show less

Welcome to the Beaver Dam Unified School District, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about why our community is one of destination and distinction. We are grounded in a mission to guide students and empower futures, and we are driven by a vision to lead the way in student growth and achievement. Our students have the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow in a variety of venues. Whether it is in a classroom or lab, on a stage, field of play, or virtually, we will prepare, nurture, differentiate, and stretch the learning of children to prepare them for their futures. In order to ensure that we perform our craft at the highest level, we recruit, hire, and support the most talented educators possible. As educators in the Beaver Dam Unified School District, we are committed to growing professionally and working toward the highest level of effectiveness. We do "whatever it takes" on behalf of our students and embrace a continual growth mindset. Each and every year, our district commits time and resources to improve our facilities, so that our students are able to learn and grow in exceptional spaces. Through the generous support of our community, we are currently updating our elementary entrances and working through a complete renovation and remodel of our high school. At the completion of this project, we will improve safety throughout the district and provide our students with one of the most advanced and beautiful high schools in the Midwest. Finally, as a district we embrace the relationships we have and work to nurture partnerships to benefit students, staff, families, and the communities in and around Beaver Dam. We believe in the power of collaboration and know that through open and honest engagement, we are able to cultivate the best possible experiences for our children. Show less
