Started at IJ in Classified paste-up. Duties included tracking down all classified ads for the paper, trimming pages and pasting ads in correct classifications. From there I moved to pasting up ads and processing Hastec liners and pasting up news, sports andlifestyle pages, working with editors on deadline. When Multi-Ad creator was brought on, I became a Mac ad builder, a responsibility I maintain. During this span I was promoted to assistant Night Prepress Supervisor. Responsibilities were to help organize the night shift in order of ads to be built, tracking down missing ads for the daily paper and helping sales staff in questions regarding ads. I am now Night Prepress Supervisor. I assumed this position 7 1/2 years ago. Responsibilities include organization of duties in the department, liaison between prepress and sales staff, organization of daily paper and special sections, submitting personnel reviews to Production Director, scheduling shifts and vacations for a night shift staff of 7, making sure press has correct plates and ensuring overall quality for the look of the ads. I also work with editors on questions concerning dummies, ad linesand problems with fonts for some sections. I have been known to return to the IJ at 3 a.m. after a phone call from the pressroom to resend a broken plate or fix a problem with an ad. Programs I use at the IJ include Multi-Ad creator, Quark Express, Adobe Acrobat, Page Maker, Indesign and Adobe photoshop. Previous jobs before the IJ include: Rental yard (maintenance and delivery) Lumber yard (sales and dispatch) Grocery store House cleaning Discount store (clerk) Clothing store (stocking)
