Corinne Iozzio
In 2021, I hired Dan to relaunch Popular Photography as its News and Features Editor. Alongside his partner on the Gear and Reviews side of the operation, Dan took the reins of the historic brand. He cultivated a diverse roster of freelance writers, planned and managed the editorial calendar and programming, oversaw social channels, developed editorial packages, and more. He was also the co-architect of PopPhoto's annual awards franchise, The Pop Awards, as well as a key visionary in expanding PopPhoto's coverage to be more expansive and inclusive than it had ever been.
Marissa Wu
I had the privilege to work with Dan at Recurrent Ventures on the Popular Photography title as half of a two-person editorial team. It was, by far, one of my favorite experiences. Dan, while being an exceptional writer and editor (with deep technical knowledge), also showed me what a good manager looks like: He was generous with constructive feedback and encouraged my ideas. He challenged me to attain skills I wouldn't have expected to have the opportunity to reach as an assistant editor. Even though there were a million things and freelancers he was managing, I alway knew that he was game to bounce around ideas and experiment. Dan’s strength is seeing the overarching vision while giving his people the freedom to execute, with guidance along the way. You know when people say to find a good boss and follow them? Dan’s one to follow.
