I have worked in the field of education and training for the last 20 years. My work experience has included designing, conceptualizing and facilitating youth development and adult education projects and programmes in a number of different settings. These have included Museums, Schools and NGO’s and have ranged in subject from art and blacksmithing to life skills and personal development. I have worked with individuals and groups in both formal and informal environments. 2005 - 2007. Together, Artist Blacksmith Conrad Hicks, and I conceptualised the Blacksmiths Workshop. The Blacksmiths Workshop was a non-profit skills training organisation, based in Langa, targeting unemployed unskilled young people with little other access to skills training. I was responsible for everything from developing the idea to implementing it. In 2007 I resigned to have my twins, Jack and Katherine. 1997 – 2003 . I conceptualised, researched, developed and implemented the Heritage Ambassador Programme. The Heritage Ambassador Programme is a heritage education youth development outreach programme based on the principles of collaborative participatory peer teaching and co-operative learning. The Programme has won awards and participated in international partnerships. Besides this recognition, the true success of the programme is that it develops self-esteem, confidence and cognitive skills. It provides the young people participating in the programme with a sense of their place in history and their responsibility to their communities and themselves. The Heritage Ambassador Programme developed and evolved beyond the confines of Museums into a versatile and dynamic programme empowering young people to create living exhibitions in their own communities thus making heritage accessible to local communities and tourists seeking real insight into the people of South Africa. In 2003 I stopped working to have my daughter Ruth.
