I have worked with Damien as he progressed through various roles from Warehouse Administrator through to Management. I know Damien to be a conscientious and loyal worker with a proven track record in providing brilliant customer service for accounts we worked on. In his time at Allport, I watched him apply a solid work ethic and focus to the tasks he undertook that saw him progress to management level in a comparatively short time. I believe Damien will continue to do well and would be an asset to any company he joins.

Warehouse Administrator

Sep 2006 - Jun 2009
Searching for pastures new i was fortunate to land a role with in Allport Cargo services, formerly Allport. I was accountable for accurate record keeping for ERTs and learned a great deal in freight forwarding, a completely new concept to me. I quickly learned the job and gained new skills which enabled me to find new ways to execute my duties accurately and productively which were recognised by my fellow colleagues and in turn, my managers. I worked closely with customer services teams and the warehouse to ensure reporting of goods unloaded and despatched, reporting on cleared and uncleared cargo and maintaining accurate records for all work carried out with in the warehouse. Again, improving on the systems in place with the help and knowledge given to me to my work colleagues. My success in the role meant doors would open to new roles with in the Allport.

Keen to learn more i looked for an admin role with in the warehouse i was currently working for and was given the opportunity. This was no doubt a valuable experience for knowledge in warehousing. It came with new responsibilities which were all new to me and keen to learn all. It came with new skills to learn which i relished in. New duties included;•sort and distribute incoming mail to areas and staff within the organisation and dispatch outgoing mail •answer telephone enquiries from customers and assist other staff in the organisation with their enquiries. Another skill here was to curb the many 4 letter words in my Basildon bred vocabulary, successfully of course. •operate a range of office machines such as photocopiers, computers, faxes. Yes Faxes for any one under 30.•file papers and documents•undertake other duties as requested by managerI left Rowan having learned a great deal. The company was dynamic and I gained great insight about the company's operations as a whole. I was amazed by it's product and how it worked In the market. If I was to move on an up, I had to shake off the 'attitude' tar I had brushed myself with having joined the company at a young age. Impressions count, and it be difficult for working relationships to evolve pass a perception that has had time to imbed. With that, I moved on to pastures new.

I was taken on as a labourer at the start and quickly found enthusiasm in the warehousing industry. I was eager to learn the basic mechanics and get a forklift license so I could be fully utilised in the warehouse. Of course the forklift driving wasn't for love, the wage increase that came with forklift driving was the additional pub money i was looking for at 19 years old. I learned a great deal in in my early years as a warehouse op for which have helped me a great deal today.
