Bio
Gray Barski
I had the privilege of leading Daksh on a handful of projects during his two semesters at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. Over the course of his time at CIPO, Daksh excelled at the tasks assigned to him, notably exceeding the workload allocated to the average student. This allowed Daksh to take on projects by himself with minimal supervision. One of his main accomplishments at CIPO was conducting independent research on identifying natural language processing (NLP) that could be implemented on CIPO’s data. I specifically appreciated Daksh’s ability to review literature carefully, identifying the drawbacks/benefits to each methodology. Given his background in economics and finance, Daksh has the ability to understand and comprehend the modelling problem beyond a standpoint that solely looks at the criteria being optimized. Because of this, Daksh was given far greater modelling privileges than the average student. To this point, I worked directly with Daksh on a large scale production model, where Daksh was able to contribute and add value to the organization by creating inter-component models that would handle data efficiently. Within this project, Daksh built a Markov-chain model that has remained in-place within one of our production models. Daksh has a high-aptitude when it comes to coding and adapting code. Often, I would receive code that implemented functions/approaches from newly-published packages. I appreciated how quickly Daksh was able to update our dashboard and grapple with ‘shiny’ in R. With regards to packages, Daksh has a notable proficiency in using data-handling functions from the ‘dplyr’ and ‘purrr’ libraries in R. On a personal-level, Daksh is one of the most humble individuals I have worked with, and takes direction well. I specifically enjoyed working with Daksh because he possesses an actual desire and love for the content. Overall, I highly recommend Daksh to anyone looking to acquire his talents. I am truly looking forward to seeing where his career will go.
