Specialist Gastroenterology and Diabetes Dietitian
-
Dec 2017 - Oct 2019
I provide evidence-based dietary treatment to patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatological diseases in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. Patients who have digestive conditions or surgery that affect their digestive system usually have special dietary requirements. It is essential that alongside their medical treatment, they are empowered to manage their condition and improve their symptoms with dietary modification. I work closely with the gastroenterology team to ensure a proficient service and respond proactively to service needs and demands. In this role, I have developed a project plan for a new FODMAP clinic in the trust to help achieve excellent outcomes for patients with IBS/IBD.I am also currently undertaking training in eating disorders and have attended courses in behavioural change to facilitate a better service. I work closely with the psychiatry team to provide patient-centred, individualised, holistic advice and support for patients with this complex condition. In addition to my gastroenterology role, I provide a specialist diabetes service to the endocrine ward. I work with the MDT; helping patients to achieve optimum glycaemic control and reduce the risk of developing diabetic complications such as cardiovascular disease and kidney failure.Alongside my clinical role, I continue to lead on events for the department and also lead the student training programme.

Sales Manager

Apr 2014 - Jan 2016
Self-employed, working independently and as part of a thriving team to promote the sale of luxury products in one of Europe's most prestigious shopping centres. This role involved providing exceptional customer service and required excellent communication skills to provide a complete shopping experience for every customer within a sales-related competitive work environment. This role involved the analysis of company and market data to reinforce or correct market and/or agency performance trend. Regular attendance of staff meetings to improve individual and team performance were important to the role. I developed persuasive sales techniques and tactful communication strategies.Given the commission based pay of the role, there were often team conflicts. I learnt fundamental conflict resolution skills, and was able to develop my own character and confidence. The need to be adaptable and flexible with shift work, and often long hours was an integral part of the job particularly given the high staff turnover. I also used and improved a variety of languages i.e. Arabic, French, to communicate with consumers.

To design and undertake health questionnaires within the Hackney population to gather information about population perspectives on health/healthy eating and food choices. The aim of this public health project was to address the obesity epidemic through the improvement of catering within takeaway outlets. This work involved liaising with an environmental health officer to approach takeaway owners, educate them about the importance of healthy eating and encourage them to make sustainable changes. This project fell under the 'Healthy Catering Commitment Initiative' which has been rolled out in other London boroughs. Consulting professional members of boroughs also involved with this project was imperative to forecast and manage the success of this work. A main focus was on the takeaway outlets surrounding the 7 'school heroes.' Following this work, a public health report was published.
