Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa 99cents is an advertising agency headquartered in Cape Town. At 99cents I was part of a 4-person development team at its infancy that was driving digital innovation at the agency. As the only backend developer I built and maintained all our backend systems for our internal tools and tools used by clients, as well as automated and maintained all our deployment pipelines.

At Monetise I developed and maintained online stores powered by Magento, an Open Source PHP MVC based eCommerce framework, as well as worked closely with the COO to put together proposals, quotes and project scopes and project plans. My key technical responsibilities were setting up Magento, customising the default backend functionality to meet the functional specification, customising the frontend to meet the design specification, automating product migrations from previous platforms to Magento or from stock management systems to Magento, migrating products from Magento 1 to Magento 2, enhancing the default Magento theme user experience, developing internal Magento modules , developing internal WooCommerce modules, installing and configuring third party Magento modules and developing internal Magento modules. Monetise did not have an appointed Senior Developer, I was a de facto Senior Developer. This translated into working closely with the COO to compile quotes and proposals for clients and to scope projects. It also required interfacing with clients and managing client relations. I wrote manuals for client training and trained clients to manage their shops. My stack at Monsetise was PHP, Symfony, Python, Magento, WooCommerce, HTML, Javascript and Jquery. I built: https://timberland.co.za, https://orms.co.za, https://trudiamonds.com, https://shoptoms.co.za, https://jansport.co.za, https://inksaver.co.za, Show less
