The UK&I CTO approached me with the opportunity to join his team as a product manager. My role covered product portfolios including time and attendance systems, audit and compliance platforms, and POS systems. This role gave me greater opportunity to gain experience in areas I had not previously been exposed to whilst re-engaging with the more technical side of IT.Upon entering the role, I embarked upon cataloguing the application estate in these product areas to understand their capabilities, footprint, cost, quality, and the integrity of the vendor relationships. This work enabled the business to identify where systems should be decommissioned, and opportunities to consolidate to other platforms. I engaged with vendors and my international colleagues to identify new products that could enable us to standardise and consolidate our application estate. The output of this for the business was seen both in cost saving and better business intelligence.Secondment: Project Manager (Technology Transformation - Jan 2018 to May 2018)Due to my experience of project management and my technical background, I was seconded to run a programme of works under an IT transformation strategy to consolidate, migrate, and update the technologies and services IT utilised and offered. The programme ran projects in four core IT areas: data centres, governance, retail, and business intelligence. During my secondment, I planned a three-year roadmap with each IT lead and their team, understanding where strategic and practical constraints had to be applied, and providing an order of events to achieve key milestones. For two years of my time in this role, I managed a multi-million-pound programme of works that delivered both the capability to consume Office 365 services and the means to consume them. This involved a series of planned infrastructure upgrades and changes, the deployment of 4,000 end user devices across 1,300 locations in both the UK and Ireland, and migrating over 10,000 mailboxes from different legacy systems to Office 365. The programme also delivered a branded communications strategy, end user training provisions, and enabled collaboration through platforms such as Skype and SharePoint.I managed the company's PCI DSS compliance project until I left the role, rolled out digital payslips to 100,000 colleagues, oversaw the development and implementation on an in-house auditing system, implemented a credit card to expense reconciliation project, and delivered a data centre migration project. This role allowed me to further develop my stakeholder engagement skills, improve technical awareness, manage large budgets, coordinate multiple work streams, improve documentation standards, and gain familiarity with the challenges that faced the business. It allowed me to use my own initiative in resolving complex and sensitive issues, while adding value to business sponsors and owners. The role was demanding, and in order to ensure the best outcome for the business, I always endeavoured to completely appreciate all aspects of the project and the constraints within which I must deliver. In 2016, I was a recipient of Compass Group's 'Be A Star' award for my 'can-do attitude' for successfully delivering the large technology transformation programme I managed.
