Exhibition planning, research, and content development for “Saving Washington” (March 2017), the inaugural exhibition for the N-YHS Women’s History Center. Saving Washington recasts the traditional Founding Fathers narrative to consider the less-examined contributions of women whose behind-the-scenes efforts helped implement the Constitution “on the ground.” In spite of laws restricting their broader participation, elite and non-elite women alike sought various avenues for empowerment, activism, and leadership.Featuring more than 150 objects—such as artworks, books, documents, clothing, jewelry, and housewares—within immersive installations, Saving Washington evokes Dolley Madison’s famous “Wednesday night squeezes,” her popular social gatherings that drew a wide range of people to “squeeze” into the President’s mansion and encouraged informal diplomacy. Curatorial research, exhibition planning/development for “The Vietnam War,” an exhibition (opening Fall 2017) which offers a history of the Vietnam War on both the homefront and warfront—the war’s causes, conduct, and consequences as well as the American public’s response. Scope of work focuses on the period shortly following President Johnson’s 1965 draft announcement, and explores the personal and political decisions of an American generation asked to go to war and who ultimately fought there. Contributed to the historical content and production research for "The Search for General Tso", a documentary film about Chinese food in America. The film travels the globe to unravel a captivating culinary mystery of General Tso's chicken - a staple of Chinese-American cooking, and a ubiquitous presence on restaurant menus across the country. But just who was General Tso? And how did his chicken become emblematic of an entire national cuisine? The story is a journey from Shanghai to New York to the American Midwest and beyond to uncover the origins of this iconic dish, turning up surprising revelations and a host of humorous characters along the way. Told with the verve of a good detective story, "The Search for General Tso" is as much about food as it is a tale of the American immigrant experience. The film was selected for the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival, 2014 Seattle International Film Festival, and 2014 Independent Film Festival Boston. Show less
