Senior Director, Health Education
-
Apr 2012 - May 2018
This position provided ALA Mission specific health education initiatives across the Upstate NY regions (Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse) and managed/ supported a team of statewide asthma educators as part of the NYSDOH Regional Asthma Coalition grant funded program to reduce the burden of asthma across NYS. I was honored to hold the position of co-chair for the Asthma Partnership of New York with the NYS DOH, Bureau of Chronic Disease and Prevention. APNY is a state-wide asthma coalition of stakeholders tasked with supporting asthma care needs across NYS by supporting and translating evidence and guidelines based care into practice. This includes advocacy efforts for funding needs, business case development to support reimbursement for asthma care, workforce and self management needs. Local initiatives that I coordinated in this position included Asthma Basics, Open Airways for Schools, Asthma Friendly Schools Initiatives, Asthma Friendly Child Care Initiatives; and Asthma Educator Institutes for healthcare professionals. Since 2015, I have had the opportunity to expand my scope to support the LUNGFORCE initiative by hosting healthcare professional education events on Lung Cancer awareness, early detection screening guidelines, and innovations in treatment/survivorship. These programs called "The New Hope in the Fight against Lung Cancer", resulted in 300+ educated healthcare professionals in the Rochester & Buffalo areas as well as strong partnerships with Roswell Park Cancer and UR Wilot Cancer Institutes. Strong partnership management, evidence-based, population health and public health management were key components of this position. This position provided oversight, support, guidance and leadership for the ALA's 4 NYS DOH Regional Asthma Coalitions (Buffalo, Hudson Valley, Queens and Long Island); grant contracts, staff and community partners and projects. Youth Market Director
-
1998 - 2004
During my tenure at the AHA, I worked on the American Heart Walk and other part time needs while completing my graduate degree in Community Health Education & Public Health from SUNY Brockport. As the Regional Youth Market Director, this full time position provided educational fundraising outreach to local schools for healthy heart and exercise messages. The Jump Rope for Heart & Hoops for Heart programs were conducted across the Finger Lakes 9 county region and with over 150 events, realized more than a $300,000 campaign annually. I was fortunate enough to also manage and cultivate the # 1 fundraising school in the nation for Jump Rope for Heart- French Road Elementary School in Brighton, NY. Under my care and attention they grew their event from $45,000 to over $75,000 annually! This program eventually breached $100,000 in one year. The mission of AHA continues to be close to me personally as I still have many people in my life that are affected by this disease and mission work. Show less
