I’ve worked closely with Chris at Robinhood for ~18 months and found him to be a highly talented researcher that goes above and beyond to deeply understand customers, advocate for them internally across a wide range of project types, and most importantly, drive business results. He has a strong ability to contribute across a wide range of projects including: core research projects to understand customer needs and translate them into product hypotheses, longer term product roadmap prioritization, and higher level company strategic decisions (though the customer lens). Core Research: Chris was the lead researcher for the most important part of Robinhood’s business, options. He took on one of the most complex products at the company, without any background in options, and helped us build a highly successful options product. He was always a few steps ahead of the rest of the company to understand our options customers, their current and future needs, and the best ways Robinhood could meet those needs. Roadmap Prioritization: Chris is very strong at helping product teams prioritize what to build based on customer needs. He is able to conduct specific, targeted research studies but also zoom out to understand how to guide product teams on what to focus on. This was particularly important as the team had turnover. Chris was a constant voice that helped the team constantly stay focused on high priority projects. Bigger Picture Strategic Thinking: Chris is able to take a big step back, understand the broader business needs, and provide the voice of the customer to inform strategic decisions. This ability has really allowed him to amplify his impact across Robinhood, all the way up to the C Suite. Even as the company grew, Chris remained a trusted strategic voice. Creative Entrepreneurial Impact: While Chris has the ability to get the job done across the 3 dimensions mentioned above, he drives impact by thinking outside the box. On multiple occasions he identified and executed ways to drive the business forward that were unconventional. This has been especially impactful for trickier projects with less of a clear path forward on. Instead of shying away from these types of projects, he often has thrived in tackling them head on. He thrived when he identified the need to have both deepen our relationship with our most important customers, and created a Customer Advisory Team to tighten the feedback loop between these customers and Robinhood. This both improved the research output the team could achieve and made this customer set feel even more valued by the company. To sum things up, Chris is someone that is able to make a tangible business impact at any organization he joins. On top of the skills mentioned above, Chris has a fantastic attitude and is always willing to do what it takes to get the job done. I can’t wait to work with him again soon!
