Crystal and I worked together at Ernst & Young from 2013 to 2015. I was her manager on 3 different projects at various consumer banking clients. At each of these financial services initiatives, Crystal showed leadership by executing beyond what was promised, approaching her work with humility and empathy, and taking time to mentor younger analysts. Crystal and I were contracted to audit a bank’s compliance with fair credit reporting regulations. The customer was only focused on ensuring its lending operations used credit reports correctly when assessing borrowers’ creditworthiness. Crystal provided a lot of value by pointing out key regulatory requirements that could also apply to the deposit division. After getting approval to expand our scope, Crystal found control weaknesses in the deposit department and reported it to management. The client was extremely pleased with our results and considered us for follow-up projects. On another project at a large consumer bank, Crystal and I assisted a customer in migrating mortgage data to a new system. The employees feared that the new system would automate their work and cause them to lose their jobs. At various data mapping sessions, Crystal reassured the employees that we were only documenting how they could do their jobs using the new tool. She made them feel valued by listening to their ideas for improving business processes. She also trained the employees on how to test and use the new system. Through humility and empathy, Crystal convinced the employees to embrace the project and participate in the data migration, enabling our project complete on time and on budget. In our last project together, Crystal was staffed along with two brand new analysts. One of the new analysts struggled; he would prepare detailed questions for meetings but would not speak during the call. Crystal taught him by example by letting him shadow her during a client interview. She showed her confidence in him by telling him that he would lead the next client meeting. She went over his questions and role played the interview as preparation. Unfortunately, the analyst’s first interview still did not go well. After a debrief of how it could have done better, Crystal let him try again in the next interview. Crystal is a great mentor, leading by example, displaying patience, and providing others with learning experiences. Although Crystal has already exemplified leadership at our various finance consulting projects, I know that her skill sets would translate well in other pursuits. I’m confident about her ability to make immediate and lasting impacts at a complex organization.

I worked with Crystal on a project that was very demanding with aggressive deadlines. This was a new role for her and something that she had never done prior. I was genuinely impressed by her work ethic, and her ability to approach the most difficult situations while maintaining a professional attitude.
