    • Corporal
      • Feb 2018 - Jan 2020

I worked in the maximum Security units (The highest security level. Housing the most violent offenders, Solitary confinement, protective custody, suicidal precautions, high profile cases, etc.) my duties included de-escalating situations, conducting cell searches and pat-downs, writing reports that were seen by Sargents, Lieutenants, administration, the inmates, the discipline board, attorneys and possibly a Judge and jury. Observing and assessing all inmates, investigating situations without alerting offenders, breaking up fights, subduing combative offenders, cell extractions, riding with EMS and an incarcerated individual that needs emergency medical attention to insure the safety of EMS workers, the general public, hospital staff and that the offender does not escape custody, with my only weapon being OC-10 spray, insuring suicidal offenders do not attempt suicide, overseeing the daily lives of Nashville’s most violent criminals that are incarcerated as they interact with each other, participate in recreation time, ensure they get fed and that they ate, have the opportunity to shower at least once every twenty-four hours and if they do not shower at all within an allotted time, I notify my supervisors and depending on how long it has been, assisting in a “forced shower”, insure that incarcerated criminals that have court are awake, fed, had the opportunity to shower and ready for court by the time transportation arrives (usually around 0600), insuring I do not do anything that would violate anyone’s rights, insuring that all the actions I mentioned are logged in multiple places. All while not breaking policy or procedures. Show less

    • Deputy
      • Feb 2015 - Feb 2018

As a Deputy with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, I served on the Berrien County Honor guard unit, I conducted funeral details for fallen Officers, I represented the agency as I offered condolences to family, friends and departments of fallen Officers from other agencies, I marched in parades that lasted over a mile, with temperatures over one-hundred degrees, in a wool suit, while carrying a M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle (its like the Nova of rifles, a classic and heavy). I also served on Berrien County Hazardous Material response unIt, which also served as a regional response team. I was on call, twenty-four hours, seven days a week. The best I’ve ever heard Hazmat duties described is, we solve problems you didn’t know you had, until an emergency situation, in way you don’t understand (or probably care to). I also worked in the jail in which I maintained the safety and security while using the least amount of force possible all while following policy and procedures. Show less

I handled bond money, ensuring it was the right amount and filling out the necessary documents to complete the bonding process. I broke up fighting inmates, de-escalated unruly individuals, transported inmates, I wrote reports regularly and documented activities on multiple inmates as to their behavior, events, appointments and daily activities.
