To whom it may concern, It is a real pleasure to provide a reference letter of Mrs. Cristina Grau. Indeed, writing a reference letter has never been that easy to me, due to Cristina's excellent professional and personal skills, who I do consider as an outstanding Research assistant and laboratory manager. I met Cristina in 2011, at the beginning of my tenure track at IDIBELL. At that time I was short experienced in human resources selection procedures, but did not hesitate to select Cristina, because of her sincerity, seriousness, kindness and excellent references from her previous supervisor at Leitat (Dr. Ramon Massagué, LEITAT). This is probably the best choice I ever made while selecting a candidate, since she rapidly converted into a basic pillar of my nascent laboratory and was essential to setup the gold standard cellular, biochemical, microscopy and mouse model-based assays in my laboratory. Her brilliant work was not limited to the experimental work, but also to instruct resident students (Master, PhD) to laboratory techniques, to manage the laboratory (stocks, purchases, booking services) and, very importantly, to "buffer" the laboratory mood. Indeed, Cristina is a very mature and quiet person, providing a peaceful and energetic atmosphere to the laboratory. Accordingly, Cristina is highly appreciated and respected amongst her peers as well as from the PIs. Besides her large experience in multidisciplinary techniques, and her excellent technical skills, the most outstanding quality of Cristina is her exquisite ability to design / tune experimental work and to schedule the work program. With little indications on the project objectives and workplan, she is able to revise the technical litterature, to design interesting experiments, to reproducibly execute the experiments, to analyze the data and finally give high quality outputs. As mentioned before, Cristina joined my laboratory in 2011 (for a 3-years contract) and lasted until 2017. Unfortunately, at that time my Grants were not sufficient to prolong her contract. During these six years, Cristina always showed an intense commitment with the research group, and the best technical and personal skills ever found along my career. Recently, Cristina's scientific activity was focused on data analysis of different datasets she obtained in the laboratory of Dr. García-Cazorla (Neuropaediatrics Unit, Hosp. St Joan Déu, Barcelona). Her will to provide a curated and robust analysis prompted her to get additional theoretical training on this discipline, and she thus underwent to acquire additional skills on data analysis, showing off her curiosity and will to move forward and to go out of the "comfort zone".
