  Worked for two years in a Crustacean Biology Laboratory as an undergraduate research assistant. Assisted graduate and postdoctoral students in experiments that examined the cellular pathways that regulate the molting cycle in Gecarcinus lateralis, a species of crab. Worked closely with a Ph.D. student to test whether the concentrations of secondary messengers (cAMP and gAMP) directly influenced the concentrations of molting hormones (ecdysteroids) in the crab's molting gland. Learned and practiced wet lab techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, western blot, yeast cell culturing, protein isolation, and Y-organ harvesting. Show less
