After my tenure PhD studies, I started new lines of investigation where I investigated new ways for the detection of hydrocarbons through polymer matrix composites. The detection was carried out using novel optical fibre sensors. Furthermore, in parallel, I was working in few projects based on polymer coatings, polymer process optimization and the use of fillers to improve the mechanical properties of the composites. At the same time, I was supervising two master students.

Marie Curie Ph.D. Candidate in Materials Science Technology and Chemistry
-
Oct 2015 - Oct 2018
I hold a PhD in materials science technology and chemistry at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. I formed part of Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher enrolment called CoACH-ETN. My research was focus on the development of novel optical glass fibre sensors in order to detect the diffusion of chemicals through the Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composites. During my PhD studies, I was developing new polymers formulations for coating protections. I fabricated chalcogenide fibres to be used as fibre sensors and I worked with nano-fillers. Furthermore, I was in charge of laboratory daily task such as purchase chemicals, control deliveries, interaction with market customer and supervision of few students. Thanks to the Marie Curie Grant, I was living and working in three different institutes performing my PhD secondments. I worked in Element Materials, Hitchin, UK; Nanoforce, London, UK; and Diafir, Rennes, France.

I hold a Master on Science (M.Sc.) is in Nano-science and nano-technology and chemistry of frontier where I spent 7 months is USA at Northeastern University, Boston. During the M. Sc. I learnt new skills such as, planning and executing R+D+I project, collaborative teamwork and working autonomously whilst remaining responsible and using initiative, among others. I spent a few months in Consorci d’Aigües de Catalunya (CAT), an industry where the water from the river is purified for human water consumption. During this period, I had the opportunity to improve my analytical chemistry skills in registration, validation, calibration and control quality of chemical parameters. I have worked in the verification and management of work methodologies and system procedures in ISO context and energy management systems. Furthermore, I performed tests in a state-of-the-art laboratory on detection of dissolved drugs and dissolved metals in water.

Besides complete my last subjects of my bachelor’s in chemistry, I worked in the United Kingdom (UK) at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) laboratories where I did my senior project. The project was supervised by Professor John Wallis, whose is the Head of Organic Chemistry and leads a research group. Wallis is working on organic materials, biologically active compounds and investigation of molecular interactions by X-ray crystallography, where I had the opportunity to investigate novel anticancerogenic compounds for medical uses.

During my summer break, before got my chemistry degree, I worked in Reagent KIT where I prepared chemical reagent supplies for hospitals uses. Within the ISO standards requirements, I performed analytical analysis of the raw materials and end products by controlling the inorganic and organic quality parameters, additives and conformity certification. Additionally, I redacted normal work procedures in the context of the system for management and quality for certification in the ISO context.
