Craig Ten Broeck was educated at the University of Michigan and Cornell University receiving Master's degrees in Conservation and Agriculture in 1972 and 1986, respectively. He had a 30-year career in government working in the fields of conservation, agriculture and environmental protection, primarily in Maine State government. He retired in 2004 and took time to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail and travel in the western U.S. for several months during the summer of 2005. He has been the Director of Sustainability at the College of the Atlantic since September 2005. In this role, he works to reduce the College's carbon emissions footprint, improve energy efficiency in campus buildings, source renewable energy and sustainable building materials and products for the College, and help to make the College's farms more sustainable. In 2006, he served as his own general contractor to build a timber frame house enclosed by stress skin panels with a solar orientation to create an energy efficient retirement home. Show less
