For this summer internship, I was employed through Wakurasa Scientific but worked on Fort Riley with ITAM (Integrated Training Area Management). I assisted with research team to investigate the response of fluvial streams to the use of constructed low water fords on Ft. Riley Military Installation. Measured changes in channel geometry and sediment size along selected stream reaches. Aided with surveying of stream using laser level, rod, 100ft tape, and cam line. Measured elevations of cross sections and longitudinal profile of streams. Conducted pebble counts, scour chains, and erosion pins. This data was then used to determine the stability of the stream using Rosgen's Level II classification. Show less

At Wolf Creek, my main goal for the internship was to identify the major components of solid waste and research alternatives to reduce the amount of solid waste. In order to accomplish this, I conducted a waste audit report for the entire plant to evaluate the composition of trash. I then researched alternatives to reduce or eliminate the volume of nonhazardous waste streams and find recycling markets for solid waste. I communicated with employees to establish possible alternatives. At the end of the internship, I recommended ideas and suggestions for reducing their solid waste. Show less

For this internship, I worked for a professor in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at Kansas State University. This internship involved assisting with the irrigation of a transect on the Konza Prairie. Responsibilities included measuring soil moisture content with a neutron moisture meter. Also measured above ground biomass and precipitation. This data was then entered into a spreadsheet to help determine when to irrigate.
