In this role I am responsible for the local management and oversight of OAR staff located in the Brisbane office. This includes responsibility for supporting and mentoring a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the delivery of CASA’s core functions and the provision of specialist technical support to other members of the OAR. This includes statistical analysis, stakeholder engagement, information sharing, airspace reviews and cross organisational interaction to ensure that airspace is safe for all users.As the Senior Airspace Project Specialist within the OAR my principal activities will:• Ensure that CASA’s responsibilities in relation to the oversight of programmes that aim to improve the safety, efficiency and equitable use of Australian administered airspace are consistently met.• Encourage a positive safety culture and engagement with the aviation industry to ensure that the high standards of aviation safety associated with the airspace safety risks, airspace activity and safety analysis of airspace reviews obligations are maintained.The role requires demonstrated understanding of airspace design, airspace administration and airspace risk analysis. This includes demonstrated experience in conducting real time traffic modelling using Total Airspace and Airport Modeller (TAAM). The role also requires a detailed understanding of Australia's national airspace system, classifications, surveillance systems and air traffic management along with Australia's airspace legislation. The Airspace Project Speciaist, in accordance with the Airspace Act 2007 conduct Aeronautical Studies and Airspace Reviews to determine the appropriateness of the classifications of volumes of Australian-administered airspace and of the services and facilities provided by air navigation service providers. The role required me to conduct detailed analysis and assessment of aviation activity within Australia for the purposes of determining the need for airspace reform. The position also required me to undertake airspace reform activities including development, consultation, implementation and education. By usine specialised knowledge and experience I was able to undertake technical writing of aviation reports to be published by the OAR.
