Oct 2011 - Aug 2014
I led a team supporting a bespoke set of applications and services dedicated to security, etrading and low latency applications. We provided service within RBS and owned the low latency co-location plants and web security infrastructure globally. As well as web traffic we also hosted infrastructure for external client connectivity via FIX messaging. Technologies were Apache, Tomcat, Jboss, Caplin Liberator, GlobalScape EFT, Splunk, CyberArk, F5 ASM, Citrix Netscalar, Prolexic (DDOS protection) and Cameron FIX. Our servers were loadbalanced behind both an F5 ASM and a Citrix Netscalar.

LINUX ADMIN AND EQUITY SYSTEM ADMIN
-
Nov 2006 - Sep 2009
Responsible for maintaining storage and Linux/Unix servers (over 60'000 servers were deployed globally). This was partly project work, creating automation and support tools using Perl and Python. Technologies used included storage infrastructure based mainly on NetApp NAS, Brocade San switches, HDS arrays and our global Andrews File System (AFS). Operating systems used were mostly Red Hat (up to AS5) but also Solaris (up to 10). Other technologies used on a day-to-day basis included Veritas Cluster (VCS) and Veritas Volume Manager (VXVM). This role regularly led to the planning and performance of technology disaster recovery events. Following a year in the unixops team I was assigned as specialist admin working for the Equities division where I spend three a week with the front line support teams and developers. This role involved engaging the trade plant systems groups and developers to assist them with trade systems architecture and integration. Other projects included low latency build outs, exchange connectivity, audits for regulatory findings and onboarding of new applications.

integrated Seismic Imaging and Modelling of Margins (iSIMM): Crustal Formation and the Influence of a Mantle Plume Following Continental Breakup of the Northern North Atlantic.Using acquired seismic and other geophysical data, I processed and modelled over 4 Terabytes of raw data using time series processing techniques and inversely modelling the data using Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis. The results were used to model crustal formation to aid interpretation of hydrocarbons bearing sediments west of the UK. The work made use of Perl and shell scripting, to manage and perform analysis across the dataset, and the Cambridge high performance computing facilities for testing and modelling.
