FBM OTSU-2 provides at sea operational support for test launches of Trident II D5 submarine launched ballistic missiles. Responsible for mission planning and execution, as well as all aspects of command administration, performance evaluations and personnel recognition and career management. Selected Accomplishments: * Coordinator for all test launches of Trident II submarine launched ballistic missiles. Assumes operational command of the Launch Area Support Ship when operating in the vicinity of a submarine. Actively participates in missile launch countdowns. Communicates directly with the Operations Center on land and the submarine launch platform to coordinate all radar, telemetry and control assets required for successful missile flight. Responsible for redirecting shipping traffic and monitoring local weather to ensure public safety during missile test launches. * Manages and controls the movements and positioning of multi-service and multi-national support ships and aircraft supporting Demonstration and Shakedown Operations (DASOs). Communicates and directs secondary support ships and aircraft to ensure all have achieved the required safe mission support position prior to test missile launch. * Tactical Control of all Fleet Commander Evaluation Tests (FCETs). Direct responsibility for missions which typically involve launches of multiple missiles. * Coordinates directly with parent commands, Naval Ordnance Test Unit and Strategic Systems Program as well as numerous related government contractors (Interstate Electronics Corporation – L3 Communications, Lockheed Martin, John Hopkins University/Applied Physics Laboratory, Military Sealift Command, etc.) Show less
