I continue to enjoy operating at the 'coal face' of project work for clients. It starts with working closely with them to define the scope and price of the project, and ends with the successful delivery of the service. Although other staff or allied professionals will provide assistance along the way, I make sure that a project is always on track. Fox & Associates was started 35 years ago by David Fox and has been built on the back of residential land development work, particularly on the Port Hills of Christchurch. Part of my role since joining the firm has been to broaden the client base and strengthen our work in the rural sector. I also have management roles within Fox & Associates. I have the operational responsibility to ensure that staff and resources are organised and that projects run smoothly across the company. I also champion health and safety to ensure that everyone is aware of their roles and responsibilities in this area, and ultimately that we all come home safely at the end of the day. Show less

It was my role to undertake projects and look after some of the key clients in the Crown land sector. A major project was to assist the Treasury to finalise the transfer of core assets in the Upper Waitaki Power Scheme to State-Owned Enterprise Meridian Energy Ltd. I was regularly involved in portfolio work such as Land Information NZ high country tenure review surveys, Crown land disposals, NZ Transport Agency road legalisation surveys and QEII National Trust conservation covenant surveys. Many other surveys for acquisitions and disposals of land for government departments such as Conservation, Defence, Police, Corrections, Education and the Office of Treaty Settlements were also undertaken. My role was also to help broaden the client base beyond the public sector, undertaking subdivisions in the rural and urban contexts for new private clients. Show less

Terralink NZ Ltd was a state-owned enterprise formed from the spatial, property and surveying business groups of the former Department of Survey & Land Information. I was part of the surveying business group and was responsible for managing projects involving surveys for other state-owned enterprises and government departments. A particular highlight was project managing the surveys required throughout the South Island as part of the Ngai Tahu Treaty Settlement process.
