After close to ten years as both a Partner and Senior Counsel with Solstice Public Affairs, I am beginning a new position for an organization whose work I respect, admire, and support. I have spent close to 25 years in and around politics and that will not change. However, Support Ontario Youth is a registered charity and in need of a fresh approach to creating Partnership opportunities that will go some distance to realizing the continuation of the important programs that Support Ontario Youth offers in order to encourage young people to choose the skilled trades as a destination for work.My position as Director of External Affairs will deal predominantly with developing a program of giving that, as mentioned, with help support the valuable programs Support Ontario Youth provides including Tools in the Trades Bootcamps, scholarships, and our group sponsor program. My role will also involve engaging with Stakeholders within the construction and industrial sectors so that they too can become more involved in Support Ontario Youths’ work. As well, I should mention that I will continue to engage, albeit to a much lesser degree in government relations. It is important to thank my former Business Partner, Stewart Kiff for the opportunity he provided me so that I could continue working in government relations once I retired from OSSTF in 2013. I should also thank the many clients who trusted me to help them navigate government on their behalf and to thank the other folks I worked with at Solstice Public Affairs.
