Key Stage 4 Science / Geography Enrichment Teacher
-
Feb 2016 - Sep 2017
Delivering teaching sessions at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuit Centre that specially target Science and Geography Curriculum areas. these lessons take learning out of the classroom as the students investigate how learning actually relates to the real world. Session 1 - characteristics of rivers and how these change from a narrow stream to a wide canal. we explore how flow rate changes and set up investigations to test and challenge our understanding. Session 2 - how does the water cycle and the water table work, what methods filter water efficiently and how safe is it? we build our own range of filtration systems before testing what impact these have on ammonia, ph levels, colour and particles.Session 3 - how does the environment change the life that it sustains? we a investigate a range of different locations - woodlands, grasslands, wetlands to see how the soil differs, what flora and fauna is present before exploring how the process of decomposition is affected by the variables at each location. A really immersive and engaging experience that allows the students to ask questions and then physically answer them, digging down to the water table, designing and completing investigations on rivers and seeing natural processes, such as decomposition, from start to finish.
