Assisted several correspondents with research for long form radio stories on the Investigations desk. For "Missed Treatment," helped craft a Freedom of Information Act request, analyzed data and researched Army medical texts for psychological treatment guidelines for soldiers. This story won a 2017 Alfred I. duPont Award from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. It was also a runner up for Investigative Reports & Editors' innovation in investigative journalism radio/audio large category for 2015. For "Opt-Out," a joint investigation between NPR and ProPublica, searched hundreds of court filings in PACER to find and analyze opt-out plans and researched Texas and Oklahoma worker's compensation laws. Reported and helped to edit "The Brothel Next Door" as part of a large team investigating sexual and labor trafficking across Maryland. Investigative Reporters & Editors named the project a finalist for student work in 2015. Also reported the following, "Battlefield Technology Gets Spotlight in Maryland Courts: Secrecy and Defense Concerns Surround Cell Phone Trackers" as part of a final project to obtain master's degree. The investigation was published May 3, 2016. It showed that Maryland police agencies have spent millions to buy and use a controversial battlefield device for a decade with little oversight and sometimes with the assistance of the FBI. The story was picked up by the Investigative Reporters & Editors blog and was referenced by Forbes, TechDirt, Buzzfeed, The Register, Yahoo News and more. Show less
