  - Develops, directs, and implements first year experience programming including New Student Orientation, Learning Communities, and student success and retention initiatives. - Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop first-year advisors. - Directs, plans, supervises, and evaluates the work of first year advisors - Provide leadership to peer mentors, specifically the Orientation Leaders. - Develop and implement strategies to increase student persistence toward graduation and/or transfer to a four-year college or university. - Utilize Banner, Salesforce, and Degree Works to enter overrides, collect and analyze data, and perform other key operations. - Maintain continuous lines of communication with academic deans, academic advisors, and the records office regarding scheduling issues, overrides, and curriculum variances - Provide excellent service to all visitors in the Office of First Year Experience answering questions from students and guests, helping students with paperwork, and teaching students how to use SMC resources. - Represents academic advising on college-wide committees to provide guidance for student success and retention initiatives, including cohort management, resources workshops, and engagement initiatives.
