    • Family Resource Center Assistant
      • Sep 2013 - May 2016

The Family Resource Center bridges the gap between home, school and community by offering referrals to community agencies as needed. By seeing the whole student, I was able to ensure their needs were met at home so students were ready to learn when they came to school. I was able to do this by helping provide connections to services, resources and emotional support that strengthened and empowered families. This enabled them to help their children develop into responsible, competent adults. • Breastfeeding Coordinator
      • Jul 2012 - Dec 2012

The breastfeeding counselor at the Department of Health provides breastfeeding education and support to pregnant and nursing mothers who qualify for the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) nutritional program. I also implemented 2 monthly classes, one that was a basic "Benefits of Breastfeeding" class for pregnant mothers considering breastfeeding, the other was a class aimed at mothers who were already breastfeeding to address breastfeeding issues that can arise. I worked to create an atmosphere at the Health Department that was conducive to breastfeeding, including setting up a nursing room where new mothers could feel more relaxed and comfortable while feeding their infants. I also was an advocate in the community for breastfeeding and seized opportunities to promote breastfeeding at community events. The goal of my work was to increase breastfeeding rates in the community since breastfeeding has been proven to increase immunity to illness and disease along with numerous other benefits.
