Michael Cantelmi C.A.
I have studied with Costa throughout all of high school, and even though we studied different degrees in university, there were several times that I did exam prep with Costa. He is a hard working individual with skills in areas such as leadership, responsibility and delegation. This was reflected by Costa achieving an honours status in engineering well within the appropriate time frame. I would recommend Costa to any employers in the engineering field without hesitation.

During my time with Bonacci Group, I worked both as a structural and civil engineer as well as project manager of civil projects. Working on projects with construction costs ranging from $1000 to $25 Million, I have gained experience in a variety of structural and civil projects and roles. Through my role as a structural engineer, I have been involved in the design and documentation of a variety of commercial, residential and industrial structures. Designs included the use of materials such as timber, steel, concrete, masonry and FRP utilising programs such as Microstran, RAPT, Comp panel, CORD and structural toolkit to aid in the design process. In my role as a civil engineer, I have been involved in the design and documentation of commercial and residential stormwater systems and pavement designs. Inclusive of the design aspects, my role also involved the project management of our land division projects. The project management role continued through from concept design to completion of construction. In addition to the design aspect, my various roles involved liaising with regulatory authorities such as local councils, SA Water, SAPN and DPTI as well as coordination of design through liaising with design teams and contractors to achieve the best results for the project. Part of the liaison with contractors also included site inspections of the steel erection, concrete reinforcement, proof rolls and various other on site issues that may have arisen through the course of the project. Finally, I have used AutoCAD for documentation of civil and structural plans, elevations and details.

Working on secondment at the Town of Gawler, tasks completed included: - Procurement - Civil Design through Auto CAD - Concept Planning - Surveying – undertaking site surveys for the purposes of design - Compiling of project reports and briefs - Cost Estimates - Site inspections - Community consultation - Risk Assessments - Customer Service Through working at the Town of Gawler, I have gained experience in both civil engineering concept planning and design as well as increasing my on site knowledge of civil works in a local council. My tasks at the Town of Gawler have ranged from the concept planning to better utilise space in large reserves to civil design and onsite inspections of civil works. Working on the capital works program for 2014/2015, my role has involved the design of the civil works to be undertaken through the program as well as completing the scope of works, costing and risk assessments where required for the projects. In addition to these activities, my role has also involved putting together the procurement documents ready for approval and tender. My role has also seen me involved in the community consultation on the Draft Gawler Transport and Traffic Management Plan.

Structural Engineer - Work Experience
-
Nov 2013 - Dec 2013
Tasks completed included: - Slab calculations - Lintel design - Footing design - Reinforced Concrete Wall design - Underground bridge design - Steel structure design - Cost estimations During my time at SMEC Australia, I was able to gain experience in a number of different facets of the structural engineering sector. My task was to complete any design work that I was given. These designs were mainly in concrete and steel structures. The concrete designs that I completed included footing, roof slab, floor slab and concrete wall design. One of the designs for concrete floor and roof slabs was completed by liaison with the structural manager who was working in Mongolia at the time. These slab designs were for a new Sewerage Plant in Mongolia. To demonstrate my versatility the design required the use of AS 1170.3 Structural Design Practices – Snow and Ice Actions which I had never used before yet I was able to successfully complete the task. I was also required undertake a design of an underground bridge for the Wynyard Walk Project in New South Wales. This required the use of the Australian Bridge Code as well as the Concrete Codes. The steel structure designs included canopy design and beam design for operable walls. The canopy design was completed as a cantilever for a taxi rank proposal in Glenelg. Finally, while at SMEC Australia, I was required to interpret the structural drawings and complete cost estimates for the Top Iron project in Western Australia for Tender purposes.

Civil and Structural Engineer - Work Experience
-
Jul 2013 - Jul 2013
Tasks completed included: - Cost estimating - Steel structure analysis and design - Timber structure design - Footing checks In my time at Wallbridge and Gilbert, I spent time in both their civil and structural areas. While within the civil sector, I completed a number of cost estimates and site visits. The cost estimates were completed by interpreting civil drawings and using Microsoft excel to price the materials and labour. The most valuable experience gained during my time at Wallbridge and Gilbert civil sector were the site visits. These site visits included visits to a number of different sub divisions, sitting in on engineer and construction contractor site meetings and a visit to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital construction site. Through these visits gave me a better understanding of the working relationship with the engineers, the project managers and the contractors. During my time in the structural section at Wallbridge and Gilbert, I complete a series of designs in steel and timber structures as well as completing footing checks using the program CORD. The steel and timber structure design included analysis using Spacegass and capacity checks while complying with the current Australian standards.
