A large portion of the work involved hydrological and chemical modelling of the impact of mining and related activities on the surface water environment (see item 5 in the publication list). The following activities were included in my duties: - Research into passive treatment technologies for acid mine drainage. - Mine closure planning and costing. - Storm water planning and management. - Development of GIS databases for various mines and industries. - Water and salt balance modelling. - Pipe system and reactor design. - Evaluation of hydraulic characteristics of reactors using tracer methods. - Research into the hydraulic behaviour of various complex organic materials.
