The Buck Institute is a non-profit facility focused on the effects of many common diseases and genetics to discover their affects on age related diseases and to attempt to lengthen an individuals lifespan and health span. At the Buck I am currently responsible for most lab activities associated with the Verdin Lab, and assisting in the Flow Cytometry Core as well. I manage a mouse colony of approximately 1000 mice consisting of 13 different genetic strains used for specific research. There are various studies using these mice including studying different ketone body diets and Butadiols which are known to help increase lifespan in mice and CD4/CD28 target drugs in immunology. I am responsible for all the equipment in the lab and communicating with other labs and clients on co-op projects. Show less

I have been volunteering with this team for almost 6 years. As a National Instant Criminal Checks System Associate, I was responsible for the sale of firearms. As a customer service oriented individual I not only had to be knowledgeable about the products we were selling but also handle the process of legal sale of a firearm which can be long and takes close attention to detail. For each transaction a background and criminal history check would be run and my responsibility would be to properly run and analyze the checks in a timely fashion, making sure the individual was safe to purchase a firearm and met all the criteria necessary provided by the state.
