Corey is one of the hardest working people I know. He always troubleshooted problems with the best attitude. Corey leads by example and inspires others to do their best work. It's safe to say Corey would be a great addition to any team.

Megan M.

During the 2015-16 academic year I served as Corey’s direct supervisor in his role as Community Outreach Intern at the Morgridge Center for Public Service. Throughout that time Corey impressed me with his ability to jump into a project, work collaboratively to build community among the intern cohort, and serve as an ambassador and role-model for students looking to deepen their own civic engagement. Corey has done a wonderful job of not only meeting his responsibilities, but taking on projects beyond what has been assigned to him. He excels at bringing new ideas to the Center and being willing to take on projects that go beyond what is stated in his work plan. Some examples of this initiative include tabling at events when other interns were unavailable, joining a team of students organizing the first-ever All Campus Day of Service, and being the reason we are participating in a community-based research project on campus and community partnerships. As part of this last project, Corey is in-effect serving as a Teaching Assistant for a Community-based Research class where undergraduate students are working with the Morgridge Center for Public Service to assess what makes a strong community partnership and where folks at the University of Wisconsin – Madison can do better work.

    • Learning, Representations, and Technology Lab Research Assistant
      • Feb 2015 - May 2015

About the Lab: Learning in the STEM disciplines strongly relies on multiple graphical representations. Graphical representations are powerful learning tools because they can make abstract concepts vivid and accessible to students. Typically, instruction uses multiple graphical representations, because each emphasizes a particular aspects of the learning content. To benefit from multiple graphical representations, students need to engage in a number of learning processes. Educational technologies offer novel opportunities to support these learning processes by making graphical representations interactive and by providing individualized instructional support for students’ interactions with them. We investigate how best to provide instructional support for students to benefit from graphical representations. In particular, we focus on conceptual and perceptual processes involved in learning with multiple graphical representations. We investigate how to use educational technologies to help students successfully engage in these learning processes. (Source: Martina Rau Ph D) Show less
