Cardiovascular Engineering Research - Soleus Muscle, the Second Heart  Assessed calf muscle pump activity through the use of air plethysmography (APG). Studied the effectiveness of vibromyography (VMG) on detecting calf muscle pump activity, using signal processing. A VMG recording from the soleus muscle and an APG recording of the lower leg were taken simultaneously, analyzed for corresponding time segments showing activity, and filtered with a wavelet packet analysis to express definitive type I muscle activity from the calf muscle pump. Goal was to determine effectiveness of VMG as the new assessment standard. Cardiac Arrhythmia Research  Studied impulse propagation through the border zone of infarcted cardiac tissue. Studied how myocardial infarcts cause cardiac arrhythmias, due to vortex shedding from colliding impulse wave fronts. Designed an experiment to study the intracellular/extracellular chemical and structural changes that occur during the stages of reperfusion in a myocardial infarct. Show less
