I was lucky to call Coral a colleague and teammate for seven years. In that time, we worked on a wide variety of projects and initiatives. With that wealth of time and shared experience, I can say definitively that I observed her strong work-ethic, and that she is one of the most dynamic colleagues I have ever had. The qualities that make Coral so incredible as a teammate are her self-determination, curiosity, and a highly relational nature that makes her an effective connector of people. I remain impressed with her ability to identify areas she wants to improve in, and then her commitment to progress towards her goals. For example, Coral once told me that she felt insecure about her budget management skills. The corresponding actions over the next two years were her taking on individual training courses, creating group processes, and committing to meticulously learning the software our company used. Within two years from our initial conversation, she became not only my most capable employee with regard to finance, but she also became the teacher on our team, helping to onboard new people as we hired them. Her budget management became the standard. It was a transformation brought about completely by her eagerness to improve. There is an almost identical story about her wanting to learn to run meetings better, that ultimately led to the complete restructuring of our team meetings, and had a significant positive impact on how we communicated about our work internally. The noteworthy part of these stories is that she was the person identifying the areas for growth and creating the pathways to improvement. The summation of these efforts is that Coral is now someone who is incredibly capable of running teams, long-term planning, and helping to grow other people's skill sets. She is a natural leader who has the innate ability to step up when she sees a void in leadership. Additionally, she is widely respected and so admired by her colleagues and constituents. On more than one occasion I had the unfortunate task of project managing a group or program immediately before Coral's tenure. As a manager, handing a project over to her was a dream, because I knew it meant it was being well-stewarded. However as an individual, it always meant hearing from our students and colleagues how much better Coral was at the job than I was! Groups love working with Coral, and people gravitate towards her ideas. There are many more stories about this warm and intelligent person, but most simply put, I would hire Coral again at the drop of a hat. In fact, if given the opportunity, I would gladly work for Coral. She is the consummate teammate, a burgeoning leader, and the type of dynamic contributor who would make any organization better. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can help shed light on her candidacy for any role.
