These resources—including bulletins, monographs, webinars, and consulting and technical advice services—are designed to enable UE members to tailor risk management solutions to meet the needs of their institutions. In her role, Neary identifies trends and key issues and ensures that UE members have the information necessary to influence change at their institution. Most recently, she launched a series of advisories on the 2011changes to Title IX legislation, which has raised significant compliance concerns. Neary also launched and has grown UE’s online course offerings, which include programs targeted to both K-12 and higher education members on such diverse topics as contracting, harassment prevention, and threat assessment teams. Neary joined UE in 1993 as its first claims attorney when the company internalized its claims operations. She managed claims litigation relating to employment practices, student discipline, and academic programs and held several managerial roles, including associate vice president for claims management. In 2004, Neary led UE’s “think tank” to perform research and analysis of the liability trends affecting education and assumed responsibility for the creation of UE’s risk management publications and roundtables. In 2010, Risk & Insurance named Neary one of higher education’s risk innovators for her work on Compare@UE, UE’s benchmarking tool. Neary speaks frequently at professional conferences on education risk management and liability issues and she has served on the editorial board for the Journal of College and University Law.
