      The first of its kind, this project is a partnership between the Mid West Traveller Health Unit (Lead Organisation), Limerick Youth Services and HSE Mental Health Engagement. The project is a response to the extremely high occurrence of mental illness and suicide amongst the traveller community. This project will create, develop and support a Traveller Youth Advisory Group across five hubs in the Mid West to guide the development and implementation of this project. A suite of bespoke communication materials will be developed to protect and promote youth Traveller mental health and well being. Young Travellers experiencing mental distress will be supported to engage with mental health services. Key objectives 1. To create, develop and support a Traveller Youth Advisory Group (TYAG) across five hubs in the Midwest, to guide the development of the project and to build their capacity to drive and implement the project. 2. To create, publish and promote a suite of bespoke communication, information and capacity building measures with the Traveller community to support youth Traveller mental health and well being with young Travellers aged 10-25 years 3. To reduce the stigma around engaging in mental health services for Traveller young people in distress, aged 18-25 years, and to support them to engage with mental health services 4. To develop a sustainable approach to Traveller youth mental health engagement and empowerment that has the potential for replication and transferability to other areas and for working on other issues with Travellers. Four methodologies underpin the work of this project as follows: 1. Community development, capacity building and youth participation 2. Co-production 3. CHIME Framework 4.       This role within Pieta House' Training & Education Department involved the development and delivery of the Resilience Academy Schools Programme. This is a school based programme, delivered to second year student. Each class receives 6 x 40 minute sessions focusing on different topics. The programme aims to develop resilience skills in Young People by providing Young People with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to respond to challenges in a healthy and constructive manner. Workshops focused on mental health literacy, problem solving skills, coping skills in relation to family, friendships, relationships and school stress, self talk, healthy lifestyles, exploring sexuality, substance misuse, signposting supports, defining and differentiating between normal and problematic anxiety, depression & low mood. Liaising with school staff with any arising issues. The role involved facilitating approximately 700 Young People a week across the Leinster region.

      As part of the team, I led the provision of developmental opportunities for Young People in a non-formal setting and worked to address the needs and build the capacity of individuals and groups of people in the community through targeted programme work to address issues such as mental health awareness and literacy, sexual health, substance misuse, leadership, confidence, team building, team work, self-esteem, racism, creativity, self-care, among others.I was responsible for the administration of the project, finances, meeting reporting and working deadlines, maintaining and scheduling use of the premises, planning and reporting of programmes throughout the year, organisation of staffing, programme delivery, timelines to ensure that targets are met for the project, the organisation and funders where necessary. Kildare Youth Services offer a range of supports to families and young people through the counselling service, substance misuse service, child and family project and Youth Information service. Part of my role was liaising with this multi-disciplinary team to ensure all relevant supports are available to service users. Inter agency work within the project included community and statutory services. I am a mandated person and a trained facilitator in the Basic Child Protection Awareness Training Programme certified by the National Youth Council of Ireland. I am trained in professional supervision. I am developmentally focussed in my supervision. Part of my role was to supervise Community Employment staff. I am a trained Meitheal facilitator. I was also part of the team that deliver the Non Violent Resistance (Child to Parent Violence) training which involves working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team. As part of this role I was tasked to complete an extensive needs analysis of the area to identify the strategic and operational direction of the project in the future. This has formed the basis of decisions made about the work of the project.
