I shadowed Nageena Khalique QC in a Medical/Care public law case. I learned much about the role of the court in ensuring the best result for the individual in question over and above wishes of their family or the hospital trust involved. She also enlightened me concerning the academic and ethical dilemmas faced by medical barristers and judges alike. I shadowed Nageena Khalique QC in a Medical/Care public law case. I gained experience into the role of in-house lawyers in a commercial/financial setting. I was tasked with presenting to partners, negotiation and interned within the legal team. Of particular interest was the far reaching and dramatic effects of regulators post financial crash, and the bast ramifications of Brexit on financial entities. During my time at Eversheds Sutherland, I learned the vast disparity between law in theory and its commercial applicability. Working within the Development and Regulatory teams, I learned about the intricacies of the law as it applies to commercial development and letting, and the nuances of a career of a Solicitor-Advocate respectively. I also learned the value of a strong team and what makes an International Law Firm thrive. I spent several days shadowing the infamous Alex dos Santos in the High Court of the Royal Courts of Justice. From this experience, I gained understanding of the nuances of Admin Court, and the High Court more generally, and gained a more detailed understanding of client conferences, especially in a criminal defence context. I am charged with the organisation and, in part, judging of mock trial events, in conjunction with liaising with barristers and legal experts nationally in order to build and maintain relations with a number of chambers. This experience has honed my advocacy skills as I am consistently exposed to advocacy events and I am able to improve my technique by judging others. I have also mastered the art of conducting meetings with distinguished individuals as well as event planning and management. I was offered rigorous advocacy training by experienced barristers and partook in friendly competition with other university students from around the country. From this I enhanced my advocacy skills, especially my courtroom etiquette and learned how to apply my advocacy skills to a true courtroom environment.
