Blue Carbon Research GroupWithin the academic research group, I uphold laboratory-based aspects of works for publication investigating the sources, fate, and sink size of carbon in UK salt marshes. Study sites are from a range of land use histories, with many having undergone managed realignment recently. This research is conducted with the support of NGOs, industry leaders, and national government bodies.

With the support of colleagues, I conduct virtual and in-person climate change workshops for students, professionals, and community stakeholders. Sessions provide basic knowledge of climate science and highlight the importance of individual and collective action to promote social and environmental justice. In my senior role I support with high-profile clients and critically appraise new trainers on their journey to certification, while providing feedback on how activities develop within the programme. The rollout of Carbon Literacy training is a key element of Greater Manchester and the University's strategy to encourage net-zero skills and achieve net-zero emissions by 2038. My contribution has included training the University Senior Leadership Forum along with multiple cohorts of undergraduates, staff, and academic leaders.

Growing Roots Research GroupIncorporating the climate knowledge gained from my degree, I am working within the research group to design an innovative climate resilience workshop. The activities use playful pedagogies to teach climate literacy to all age groups 8+, including professionals. Participants are encouraged to consider the value of their garden for climate mitigation and resilience to extreme weather events. This is achieved through gamified learning and LEGO activities with reference to RHS gardens and model 'Climate Resilience Gardens', designed by myself and colleagues.

Plant Growth Rates on Urban Green WallsWorking with a Knowledge Exchange Partner, I considered the carbon sequestration value of green walls by measuring growth rate of installed species in urban spaces across Manchester, which involved horticultural plant identification. The air quality remediation potential of monoculture plantings was also investigated by installing AirSensa modules within controlled ambient environments and measuring the change in specific pollutants over time.
