I serve as a Spanish teacher on the south side of Indianapolis, Indiana. I currently teach Spanish I and Honors Spanish III. I am currently working to implement a proficiency-based teaching model in our department. I serve as sponsor of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) and the World Langugaes Department travel program. Beginning the 2019-2020 school year, I will be working with our FACS teacher to start a chapter of Educators Rising for future educators. New Student Mentor Coordinator

I work with the Coordinator of New Student Programs by having the following responsibilities:- Assist the Coordinator for New Student Programs to plan and facilitate Mentor training in the fall (August 15-20).- Attend all of the New Student Registration Days.- Arrive early to assist in the setup and organization of New Student Registration Days, fall training, and Orientation.- Provide additional support to the Coordinator of New Student Programs in the implementation and planning of future New Student Programs activities and events.- Assist LEA 482 instructor in class discussion and facilitation in the fall.- Provide support to fellow mentorsI have the following responsibilites in working with the Mentors:- Coordinate one social activity/team-building event per month for the mentors beginning in March- Maintain mentor email list and provide information about the program to all mentors through this list; keep mentors informed of upcoming co-curricular activities and FC on the Town events- Help mentors become familiar with college resources; advise and refer mentors to coordinator, as the need arises - Attend a weekly meeting with the Coordinator for New Student Programs - Maintain 2 consistent evening office hours per week- Meet individually with mentors once in the spring and once in the fall. - Record observations and submit reports to the coordinator each month in the fall- Organize a service learning project with the mentors - Call/meet with mentors as needed- Serve as a communication link between the Coordinator for New Student Programs and the mentors- Assist in the evaluation of the mentor team as a whole Show less

-Report to and maintain communication with New Student Programs Coordinator for infrastructure issues (website, mentor roster, coordinating rooms and materials for information sessions and final events, including New Student Registration, Summer Programs, and Orientation) throughout the summer. -Monitor new student website and respond to student questions via forums and announcements -Post new summer announcements on the new student website -Become familiar with each summer program and their respective requirements/criteria. -Organize an information and brainstorming session at the beginning of the summer to recruit incoming students for summer programs -Recruit interested students who qualify for summer programs -Maintain contacts with incoming students’ parents regarding summer programs and payments received from parents -Organize a method to track RSVP’s for each individual summer program -Assist mentors in the thinking, planning, and facilitation of evening events associated with the two summer bridge programs (Franklin Advantage and Go Figure; both July 24-31) -Confirm mentor rosters to Mentor Coordinator at least one week prior to each New Student Registration date -Plan each New Student Registration Day throughout the summer (supplies, food, advising, and all other duties as assigned) -Prepare to lead all pre-registration meetings the evening before New Student Registration Days and insure all details are covered -Arrive early to organize each New Student Registration Day event (April 20, June 14, June 29) -Track and report on all New Student Registration evaluations electronically for New Student Programs Coordinator no later than one week after each event.
