AWEP, the African Women's Entrepreneurship Program was launched in July 2010 at the Unites States/sub-Saharan Africa Trade and Economic Co-operation Forum(AGOA). Organized and supported by several U. S agencies, under the leadership of the U. S State Department. At the initial state women entrepreneurs from 35 african countries were involved. The program outlines three goals: 1. Accelerate the growth of women-owned businesses 2. Foster leadership for Women's business organizations; 3. Support advocacy for Women's economic empowerment (to become voices of positive change and development in their communities. AWEP now has chapters in 44 African countries. To further strengthen our network national chapters in each region are organizing themselves into regional associations to harmonise and consolidate their work and collaboration. The creation of AWEP west is part of the process. The West Africa region has a full Executives whose aim is to help drive inter regional trade amongst members. The region was inaugurated in December 2017 in Accra, Ghana as the Headquarters. As always AWEP, is a partner in progress with the U. S Embassy in any country where a chapter is formed. We feel it is important to link up and pursue common interests in furthering the economic growth of women's businesses. AWEP West Africa is made up of 13 countries: Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Guinea, Niger, Burkina Faso, Cote D'voire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia. We work with Ministries of Trades and Export Promotions Authorities in our various countries.
